Belgium beat Argentina in a shoot-out after the 1st/2nd place match in the Four Nations finished 2-2. The encounter was very much a game of two halves, with the Red Lions of Belgium winning the first half 2-0 with goals from Loick Luypaert (6') and Tom Boon (22'). Argentina rallied in the second half and goals from Gonzalo Peillat (35') and Agustin Mazzilli (44') meant the game went to shoot-out.
Belgium's proficiency in front of goal showed here as the first three Belgium players, Tanguy Cosyns, Simon Gougnard and Luypaert all found the mark. In comparison, the Argentine players Mazzilli, Joaquin Menini and Matias Paredes all shot wide.
In the second match of the day, an individual test match, England beat a depleted Scotland side 5-1 with goals from Man of the Match Ashley Jackson (7), David Condon (22', 27'), Simon Mantell (29') and Alistair Brogan (69'). Scotland got a consolation goal through Wei Adams (68').
After the game, Jackson said that he felt his team had made improvements to aspects of their play throughout the tournament and it was good for England to have played against teams they would face in the Rabobank Hockey World Cup. He added his thanks to the crowd, saying that the good-natured booing of England by the partisan Scottish crowd had been enjoyed by all the players.
