The Azerbaijan Women's hockey team handed over heaviest defeat ever to the Russian hockey team when they outclassed the Russian women by 5-0 in a triangular event underway in Baku, Azerbaijan. Russia, Azerbaijan A and Azerbaijan B are the participants in this tournament. The final of the event is scheduled to be played on Friday.
This victory against Russia indicates the rapid and productive progress which the Azerbaijan Hockey Federation (AHF) has made in a short span of time.
There is more to happen in Azerbaijan when the elite AtaHolding Hockey Champions Challenge, women will take place in Baku in June 2007, which will give big boost to the hockey in the country. The FIH also awarded the hosting rights for the Women's Olympic Qualifying tournament in 2008.
