The Investec South Africa women's hockey team and world number 14 Azerbaijan drew the fourth hockey Test 1-1 at Randburg on Sunday evening after the half-time score read 0-0.
Azerbaijan's on-song striker Aliyeva Mi Seon netted a fine field goal and Sulette Damons equalised three minutes from time with a superb effort after brilliant build-up work by tireless Investec South Africa captain and FIH All Stars midfielder Marsha Marescia.
SA are 3-0 ahead in the series and meet Azerbaijan in the final Test at the same venue at 7 pm on Monday.
Azerbaijan hit back with force after SA had dominated the first 10 minutes, Pietie Coetzee and a host of other South Africans all having come close. But Investec Player of the Match Mariette Rix, playing her 100th Test, was in top form, while Illse Davids, Nicolene Terblanche, Celia Evans, Kim Hubach, Lisa Deetlefs and Lesle-Ann George were called on to make vital tacklesduring a topsy-turvy match.
The second half was, for the most part, South Africa's - Hubach, Tarryn Bright and Kathleen Taylor having near-misses before Damons' match-saving effort three minutes from the final whistle.
