The Hockeyroos have bounced back in the best way possible following their recent 6-2 defeat at the hands of Germany, defeating the Germans 4-2 in Essen, Germany.

Despite playing without key players Casey Eastham and Kate Hollywood who withdrew from the tour following separate injuries, the Hockeyroos put in a much more disciplined effort to level the best of two series 1-1.

Following on from their great win over Australia only a day earlier, Germany picked things up were they left off, scoring the opening goal of the match at the 18 minute mark.

However to the Hockeyroos credit they were not intimidated and stuck to their game plan. A goal to striker Ashleigh Nelson, who returned for this match from an ankle injury which was initially expected to keep her from participating in the remainder of the tour, in the later stages of the first half gave the Hockeyroos some much needed confidence as they entered the half time break with the game tied.

Nelson, last years leading goal scorer for the Hockeyroos, continued her good form after half time, scoring Australia's second goal only three minutes into the second half to hand the Aussies the lead.

Hockeyroos captain Madonna Blyth, one of Australia's best players during the match, extended their lead at the 47 minute mark to 3-1.

The Germans continued to attack and put goalkeeper Kate Hubble under some pressure, scoring their second goal with eight minutes remaining to keep themselves in the match.

However a late goal to Amy Korner sealed a much deserved win for the young Hocleyroos which boasts five tour debutants in the team (Kate Hubble, Kate Jenner, Jade Close, Jayde Taylor & Kary Chau).

Teneal Attard, Kobie McGurk and NSW youngster Kate Jenner were amongst the best players on the pitch.

The Hockeyroos will now have a short break before remaining in Germany to compete in a 4 nations tournament against Germany, Ireland and India.
