ASOIF: The Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) Council has decided to convene an ASOIF Extraordinary General Assembly in order to discuss the voting procedure for confirmation of sports for the 2012 Olympic Games, and to clarify a number of questions related to this procedure, as announced by the IOC last week in Berlin.
As the IOC Executive Board's decision on this procedure was communicated after the ASOIF General Assembly in Berlin, the Member Federations did not have the opportunity to discuss it together and to seek clarification on certain points.
The ASOIF Extraordinary Assembly will take place on June 7th in Geneva.
The procedure for review of the Olympic Programme will be the only point on the agenda for the Extraordinary Assembly.
ÔÇ£Several IFs came to us after Berlin and expressed an interest in discussing this procedure and its consequences for their Federations and their sports,ÔÇØ said ASOIF President, Denis Oswald.
ÔÇ£In 2002, the Federations requested and obtained from the IOC significant changes in the overall process of review of the programme and the majority of the IFs feel this has been a fair and inclusive process. We felt, however, that it was important to give the IFs the opportunity to express their views on this final phase and to ask the IOC for clarification on a number of specific points.ÔÇØ
Due to limitations in space, it will not be possible to open the Assembly to the media, however, representatives of the IFs and ASOIF will be available afterwards for comment.
